Maintenance Facility – Leawood Parks & Recreation

The Leawood Parks & Recreation Maintenance Facility provides a centralized home for the City’s parks operations, serving as the department’s operational backbone. It brings together administrative functions (offices, training room), crew spaces (locker room, a shared vehicle wash, storm refuge), and maintenance areas (carpentry, painting, welding, and equipment repair shops) in one location.
Henderson Engineers focused on systems that improve daily operations, prioritizing durability, safety, and efficiency. In the shop areas, we designed a centralized dust collection system with a heavy-duty, industrial approach to maintain cleaner and safer working conditions. In the maintenance bays, an in-ground radiant heating system provides energy efficient heating and keeps floors warmer in the winter, improving comfort for staff working on vehicles. A bulk fluid distribution system streamlines maintenance tasks and improves workflow. During construction, Henderson worked closely with the team to resolve field challenges, including ductwork routing and visibility concerns. The result is a facility that supports efficient operations and creates a more functional, comfortable environment for staff.
