HEI Project Profile - Long

Located on Arizona State University’s West campus, the Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy represents an advanced learning environment for gifted students in grades 7-12. It’s a space where the brightest minds of today are given educational opportunities that align with their abilities and interests. Students of the academy are given a customized curriculum that combines their intellectual talents with advanced coursework that lends itself to a collaborative environment. Henderson Engineers was proud to design spaces that would help to accomplish the academy’s mission by creating academic environments where students can thrive. Henderson led the building systems design to support a variety of the academy’s project-based learning areas, which included a maker space, cutting-edge robotics lab, and drama and music classrooms. Earning a LEED Gold certification, this academic facility optimizes energy performance by incorporating innovative designs, on-site renewable energy, light pollution reduction, and HVAC system design which altogether promote student productivity and well being. Through our cost estimating services and the integration of sustainable design strategies, we were able to deliver a state-of-the-art educational facility that not only met the client’s budget, but also the academy’s desire to reduce its energy use throughout the life of the building.
