HEI Project Profile - Long
The vision for Aspen Grove Elementary was to create a bright and happy school that connects students to nature. This, and more, were achieved by adding sustainable features, forward-thinking learning pods, and features that foster community throughout the building. Situated in the Blue Valley district, this single-story school incorporates natural elements throughout the interior and offers outdoor learning spaces to immerse students in nature. Each classroom pod features a dedicated maker space and flexible learning areas that seamlessly flow into outdoor learning patios for a holistic educational experience. At the heart and center of the school is where students and staff gather as a community for lunch, performances, meetings, and learning in a collaborative environment. Henderson Engineers designed energy-efficient electrical systems coupled with building design that provides ample natural light, which can improve student performance and behavior. To cater to modern technology requirements, we also included additional power sources in the classrooms to meet the demands of today and beyond. Despite encountering delays in the design phase, the team's proactive planning ensured no disruptions to the timeline, with construction finishing more than a year before occupancy.
