NOTE: ONLY the student union won the 2019 Project of the Year award from ENR. Student Union Focus (LONG) Central Arizona College (CAC) is a public community college that values the power of innovation and continuous improvement. hen CAC needed a new ground-up facility on their Signal Peak Campus, they brought on Henderson Engineers to provide the building systems design for the new home of their student union. The vision of the 2-story, 32,250 SF student union was to have a centralized location on campus that was an easily accessible home-base for students, faculty, and athletes alike. Throughout the facility you can find lounge areas, meeting rooms, and public safety offices as well as the campus bookstore, a full-services kitchen, café, and dining hall, and an outdoor stage that opens to a green space. Through a proactive, knowledgeable, and collaborative approach and the involvement of the contractor during early design phases, the design team was able to reduce issues that commonly arise during construction administration and ultimately complete the project on time and within budget.
