HEI Project Profile - Long

Kansas City University (KCU) was established in 1916, making it one of our country’s founding schools of osteopathic medicine. Henderson Engineers renovated the school’s historic administration building providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, technology, and fire and life safety design services. Building systems were designed for private and open offices, conference and meeting rooms, upgraded restrooms, and student and staff break rooms. KCU wanted to honor the building’s 100-year heritage while incorporating forward-thinking, sustainable design practices. Our team re-used existing infrastructure when possible and implemented a dedicated outdoor air system, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and energy efficient lighting. The school’s commitment to responsible design practices paid off. KCU’s renovated administration building is certified LEED Gold. Knowing KCU’s tenured history in the Kansas City community and its reputation for being on the forefront, we expect the school to continue shaping the healthcare leaders of tomorrow for a long time. The Henderson renovation designs support the school’s master plan and will easily facilitate development as the school creates more pioneering programs for decades to come.
