Dedicated to improving and increasing manufacturing opportunities in the state of Missouri, Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) serves as the regional hub for advanced manufacturing and technology-related education and training. The new Robert W. Plaster Center for Advanced Manufacturing includes specialized hands-on learning environments, flexible and collaborative classrooms, customizable simulation training centers, long-distance learning spaces, research and development labs, designated process-improvement space, business incubation test centers, and a centralized, fully-operational manufacturing plant. OTC offers short- and long-term training opportunities that will cover a breadth of industry specializations while focusing on the future of the advanced manufacturing industry. Students of OTC will gain knowledge in emerging and high-growth areas of the manufacturing sector. Henderson Engineers provided design services that incorporated interior air handling units with VAV boxes and hot water reheat for zone control. Both the heating hot water and chilled water systems were identified as perfect candidates for using the building as a ‘teaching tool’ approach which provides teachers the opportunity to use these systems as examples in technical curriculum and gives students the opportunity to see how these systems work in a realized building. The diverse academic program also required the design of specialty exhaust systems and compressed air systems matched to each individual space while still providing flexibility for the high bay spaces. The fire protection systems were designed with clean agent fire suppression to accommodate the multiple network head end rooms for both the campus network and the separate educational network.
