HEI Project Profile - Long

For HCA Healthcare, expanding the intensive care capacity at TriStar Horizon Medical Center was a high-priority investment to serve the growing population of Dickson, Tennessee. The $9.97 million project delivered nearly 10,000 SF of new construction and over 3,500 SF of renovations, requiring a full scope of building systems to expand critical care capabilities. Henderson Engineers produced designs featuring variable air volume (VAV) HVAC units, hydronic heating loops, steam-to-hot water conversion, medical gas expansion, and upgrades to the hospital’s essential power infrastructure. Each system demanded precise integration with existing hospital operations while meeting the client’s high standards for patient comfort and clinical reliability. A critical challenge involved relocating the facility’s primary voice/data utilities – an effort requiring technical precision and meticulous planning with telecom providers to avoid service interruptions. The resulting design delivered modern, adaptable spaces including a new ICU, a lower-level mechanical plant, and targeted upgrades to adjacent hospital areas that ensure efficient around-the-clock operations while prioritizing patient comfort. Careful coordination with our project partners allowed the team to anticipate issues early, mitigate supply chain disruptions and sequence installations strategically. This proactive approach kept the project on schedule and within budget without compromising performance. By balancing technical expertise with collaborative problem-solving, Henderson provided a solution that guarantees reliability, resiliency, and compliance with healthcare standards. The new ICU addition strengthens the healthcare infrastructure at Horizon Medical Center, equipping the facility to provide lifesaving care for the Dickson community for years to come.
