HEI Project Profile - Long
Originally built in 1972, Tower 2 at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is the oldest building on campus. Henderson Engineers was brought in for its renovation, converting four levels of the six-story building into a contemporary environment for patients and staff alike. This modernization encompassed all patient rooms, corridors, staff areas, family waiting areas, and elevator lobbies to improve the visitor experience. The project not only updated aging infrastructure, but also standardized nursing units, enhanced patient care spaces, and remodeled 144 patient rooms on Levels 2 through 5. The renovation was divided into two phases to ensure the building remained operational throughout the length of the project. This phased approach allowed for the replacement of plumbing stacks and building controls while maintaining safety and reducing disruptions. During both phases of construction, the establishment of new electrical rooms necessitated the preservation of the existing ones. Critical upgrades to heating, ventilating and air conditioning, electrical systems, and emergency power were also completed.
