Henderson Engineers  is providing refrigeration services for Amazon’s cold warehouse facilities, which operate as customer delivery centers for on-line orders. The buildings selected are often not ready to handle chilled and frozen product, so our scope includes preparing the slab for freezer (or elevating), accounting for humidity, infiltration, and large usage, locating the refrigeration equipment, and understanding the electrical infrastructure needs for refrigeration equipment. Our team is also providing refrigeration services for Amazon’s larger facilities which serve as distribution centers for downstream cold chain. The systems utilized on these projects have been trans-critical CO2. Henderson works closely with the clients to determine costs, energy usage, and refrigeration operations and service. Commissioning services provided by Henderson Building Solutions for the cold storage facilities revolved around refrigeration, with additional commissioning scope including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. A base-building checklist was executed to ensure that all equipment installed met specifications and plan requirements. The functional performance testing that the commissioning team provided included writing custom scripts to ensure that all modes of sequences of operation were tested in multiple scenarios. This is valuable information to verify that the systems can perform in optimal and atypical conditions.
