HEI Project Profile - Long

The Kansas City Convention Center plays a major role in the city’s tourism  revenue since its opening. For this reason, it made sense to expand and renovate their most iconic meeting space, Bartle Hall, to remain competitive in convention business. It was important to stay fully operational –making strategic phasing a key component in this LEED Silver certified expansion and remodel . The project was broken down to two phases to allow the full operation of scheduled events. Phase 1 included a 180,000 SF meeting room, prefunction support areas, and underground connectors. Phase 2 included a 134,000 SF addition with 40,000 SF ballroom, meeting rooms, and 17,000 SF food service area, streetscape, and plaza deck lighting. To ensure the building systems provided a comfortable environment, the convention center's central plant required upgrades. This portion included two additional 1,200-ton steam turbine driven centrifugal water chillers and associated surface condensers, cooling towers, and chilled water pumps.
