HEI Project Profile - Long
Foster Pavilion is a state-of-the-art basketball arena and training facility for Baylor University, located along Waco’s Riverwalk. Built to support both the men’s and women’s programs, the venue also serves as a catalyst for broader mixed-use development in the area. With seating for more than 7,000 fans, the pavilion is intentionally designed to bring spectators closer to the court, creating an intense, high-energy atmosphere that elevates both the fan experience and home-court advantage. The project reflects Baylor’s continued investment in its athletics program and its vision for a premier event destination. Henderson Engineers partnered with Baylor to deliver a highly coordinated, technology-forward solution that aligned with the university’s standards despite limited availability from their IT staff, who were managing multiple campus projects at the time. To bridge that gap, our team increased on-site engagement and collaboration to ensure every system met expectations. A key highlight of the design is the underseat Wi-Fi system, developed through direct coordination with the manufacturer to provide reliable, high-performance connectivity in a dense seating environment. This approach supports everything from fan engagement to game-day operations, helping create a seamless and modern arena experience. DEVELOPMENT CENTER In addition to the main arena, the project includes the Jay & Jenny Allison Development Center, a dedicated training and support facility for Baylor’s championship basketball programs. This space features private team amenities such as a separate entrance and elevator, practice courts, locker rooms, lounges, and offices for coaches and staff. It also brings together key performance resources, including strength and conditioning, athletic training, hydrotherapy, and nutrition spaces, creating a comprehensive environment for student-athlete development. The facility also enhances the arena’s flexibility, with added infrastructure to support concerts and major events, including stage rigging, a full-service catering kitchen, and dedicated performer spaces.
