The Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies (BVCAPS) lets students earn high school and college credit while solving real problems in their fields of interest. Students have tailored educational experiences and professional mentors to prepare them for the high-demand jobs of tomorrow. Henderson Engineers was brought on to design the building systems for the state-of-the-art BVCAPS facility to complement the program’s cutting-edge curriculum that’s preparing students for future careers. The various spaces within the building include labs, student collaboration areas, as well as presentation and lecture rooms with interactive displays. Our team made it fast and easy for students to plug-in with flat screens and docking stations at learning lab tables. Multiple power points were added in raised access floors so students could move around and still connect. The media wall within the collaboration space is home to two interactive displays and the presentation room acts as a multi-functional space, supporting local multi-media presentations and video conferencing. To give students and teachers control over their space and enhance air quality, an underfloor delivery system was used in classrooms. By incorporated indirect pendant lighting our team was able to optimize energy use throughout the school day while also minimizing the glare on laptops, tablets, and textbooks.
