Bonner Springs City Hall – City of Bonner Springs

Bonner Springs, Kansas centralized city operational services into one complex. The complex includes two separate buildings, one new and one a historic 1918 school building transformed. The historic building contains the City Manager’s Office, City Clerk’s Office, Community Development, Finance, Public Works Administration, City Council Chamber, and Municipal Court. We utilized original horizontal and vertical chases for new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection infrastructure in order to preserve the historic spaces. The new stair tower addresses accessibility and code/egress issues.

The new building adjacent to the historic building houses the police department functions including training room, offices, evidence storage, locker rooms, interview rooms, and sally port. A new sprinkler system was required and added throughout the existing building, including main sprinkler routing and head placement in key spaces.

Awarded the Historic Kansas City’s Best Adaptive Re-Use Award, this project brings together a celebration of the history of Bonner Springs and modernized building systems to support the community for generations to come.
