HEI Project Profile - Long

KC Current, of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), is the first team in the world to build a dedicated, professional women's stadium. Located in Kansas City, Missouri at Berkley Riverfront Park, the stadium is apart of a larger development. With views of the river and city from the stands, the city is bursting with excitement, as a new path is paved for women's professional sports. The stadium has capacity for 11,500 fans, for games as well as other events like concerts and shows, with premium hospitality and seating options. Henderson Engineers staffed a women-led team of engineers for the project, providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, acoustics, architectural lighting, energy modeling, and low voltage services. We believe in the strength of a diversified team, which has resulted in more than 60% of the design leads on the project being female. The stadium features a natural turf pitch with sports lighting features that meet NWSL standards. The project is LEED Gold certified with water and energy efficient designs as well as multi-modal transportation options for stadium goers. Consessions-focused: CPKC Stadium establishes a new benchmark for professional female’s sports, and its dining and hospitality program plays a central role in shaping the fan and athlete experience. Throughout the venue, food and beverage spaces, from premium clubs and suites to open-air markets and stadium cafés, were designed as social anchors that connect fans to the riverfront while supporting efficient service during matches and large events. Henderson Engineers supported this experience by shaping the building systems that bring each food-service environment to life. Concessions and markets along the concourse were coordinated closely to accommodate high-volume service, beverage stations, and point-of-sale technology. The stadium program also expanded during design to include additional food-service areas, including a full “bunker kitchen” with cooking capability and grease waste infrastructure, requiring a dedicated addendum for coordination and permitting. Premium hospitality spaces, including pitch-level clubs, suites, and lounge-style dining zones, were treated with the same level of attention, allowing culinary operations to integrate seamlessly with social and VIP environments. Lighting design and AV/communications systems were tailored to these food-centric spaces to create comfortable, engaging settings that support everything from curated menus to event-day activation. Concession and market reconfigurations, portable and lineal market utilities, and revised beverage layouts also required system adjustments captured through additional service authorizations. Henderson’s female-led design team helped ensure each dining venue, from quick-serve stands to club kitchens, operates reliably and efficiently on game day, supporting the stadium’s LEED Gold ambitions and reinforcing the KC Current’s commitment to creating an inclusive experience for fans and the community. • 11,500- seat
