HEI Project Profile - Long
The Leawood Parks & Recreation Maintenance Facility provides a centralized home for the City’s parks operations. It brings together administrative functions, crew spaces, and maintenance areas in one location. The facility includes offices, a conference-style training room, locker rooms, and dedicated shops for carpentry, painting, welding, and equipment repair. It also supports daily operations with material storage, a greenhouse for plant cultivation, and covered equipment storage. More than a maintenance building, it serves as the department’s operational backbone. Features like a shared vehicle wash and a storm refuge help support staff during severe weather events. Henderson Engineers focused on systems that improve daily operations. The team prioritized durability, safety, and efficiency. In the shop areas, they designed a centralized dust collection system with a heavy-duty, industrial approach. This helps maintain cleaner and safer working conditions. In the maintenance bays, an in-ground radiant heating system provides efficient heating and keeps floors warmer in winter. This improves comfort for staff working on vehicles. A bulk fluid distribution system also helps streamline maintenance tasks and improve workflow. During construction, Henderson worked closely with the team to resolve field challenges, including duct routing and visibility conflicts. The result is a facility that supports efficient operations and creates a more functional, comfortable environment for staff.
