HEI Project Profile - Long
After a consistent increase in enrollment throughout recent years, a key driving factor for Park Hill School District’s construction of their fourth middle school was a focus on an improved student experience. The intention is to help the district’s student population become more evenly distributed for students in grades 6-8. Henderson Engineers provided acoustical consultation for all classrooms and core learning spaces. The middle school’s core learning spaces include art room; industrial technology lab; instrumental and vocal rooms; the special education department; FACS cooking and sewing rooms; a media center/makerspace; and classrooms specific to science, publication, business tech, foreign language, and AVID. Our review covered background noise including roof top units, direct outdoor air supply units, ducted and cassette terminal units, and air transfer ducts; reverberation time review of sound absorption materials, reverberation time analysis; and exterior noise pollution. Walden Middle School is the first new construction school building to achieve a LEED Silver certification within the Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa area.
