Robert W. Plaster Center for Advanced Manufacturing – Ozarks Technical Community College

As the first of its kind in the region, the Robert W. Plaster Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) is a modern education center providing hands-on learning for advanced manufacturing. This state-of-the-art facility is empowering the next generation of technical skilled workers and is using Henderson Engineers’ efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) design as a teaching tool. This project has been recognized for its excellence, receiving the Education Facility Design Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Our design incorporated interior air handling units with VAV boxes and hot water reheat for zone control. Both the heating hot water and chilled water systems provide instructors the opportunity to use these systems as examples in technical curriculum and give students the opportunity to see how these systems work in a realized building.

Equipped with the most advanced equipment, the 30,000 square feet of high bay labs feature 3D printers, laser cutters, robotic welders, computer aided lathes, mechatronics stations, and an overhead gantry crane. This facility is a unique blend of an educational hub, a fully operational manufacturing plant, and a tour-friendly facility for recruiting and corporate investment with elevated views of the high bay.

The diverse academic program also required the design of specialty exhaust systems and compressed air systems matched to each individual space, while still providing flexibility for the high bay spaces. The fire protection systems were designed with clean agent fire suppression to accommodate the multiple network head end rooms for both the campus network and the separate educational network.


Henderson's design supports OTC students in their educational pursuit in emerging and high-growth areas of the manufacturing sector.
