HEI Project Profile - Long

The SoFi Center is the first arena designed to modernize golf, making the sport faster, more high-tech, and more engaging for fans while showcasing the skills of top players. Blending real and virtual play, the venue introduces team-based competition and immersive broadcast features to attract new audiences. Highlights include a rotating short-game area with Augusta-style turf, a 64x46-foot simulator screen, and custom-designed virtual holes, supported by team prep spaces with hitting bays and physio stations. After the original dome collapsed in late 2023, Henderson Engineers was brought on to lead the redesign of electrical, fire protection, acoustics, architectural lighting, and code compliance. With less than a year to meet the January 2025 launch, our team repurposed existing infrastructure and integrated previously procured equipment to accelerate delivery. Internally, Henderson aligned across disciplines to update layouts for new safety and structural requirements, while externally collaborating with the owner, architect, contractors, and vendors to ensure compatibility with existing systems. This coordinated approach resolved challenges quickly and kept the project on track. The resulting systems not only support the arena’s advanced technology and broadcast needs but also improve long-term operations with reliable and efficient solutions. Despite significant setbacks, the completed SoFi Center establishes a groundbreaking model for merging sports, technology, and fan experience - setting a new standard for the future of golf. *Photos courtesy of Barr&Barr and TMRW Sports.
