HEI Project Profile - Long
Target’s inviting and easy to navigate retail space makes it easy to walk out with a cartful, even though you just came in to grab one thing. Henderson Engineers has partnered with this retail giant on their remodel, small format, and special project programs since 2016. Together, we share the goal of creating environments where people can truly enjoy their shopping experience. With an intentional effort to liven up existing stores, Target plans on spending billions on remodels to keep their stores fresh and for shoppers looking for one-stop convenience. Always looking to keep costs low for our clients, Henderson frequently looks to reuse existing equipment in our remodel designs. Customers shopping remodeled Target stores will find updated decorative lighting, family restroom remodels, HVAC improvements, and added power supply for charging electronics in café seating areas. As a third-party reviewer for non-Henderson designs, Target relies on us to ensure consistency when multiple partners are involved while simultaneously thinking outside the box to find and create innovative opportunities. As a trusted consultant to one of the biggest brand names, it’s our role to give the client what they want while keeping the integrity of the design needs. With a dedicated staff of approximately 50 people in multiple Henderson offices across the country, we believe our biggest value shows in the ability to take on a large volume of work with quick turnaround times. These fast-paced programs require strategic planning and meticulous coordination to ensure successful delivery every time. With a strong and responsive relationship, we’re sure that any future design work that comes our way will land right on target. Henderson conducted a 4-Phase Energy Study for this program where we developed a baseline energy model calibrated to an existing store, evaluated the impact of electrification in stores located in specific climate zones, evaluated alternative HVAC design options in various climate zones to further inform Target’s electrification efforts, and assessed refrigeration heat recovery opportunities & a condenser water and heat pump based system.
